The Role:
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity to blend your accounting expertise with the innovative spirit of a tech startup. You will be a key part of our service delivery, managing client accounts and providing expert financial advice, all while having direct input into the development of our accounting platform.
You’ll own a portfolio of limited company micro businesses, mainly freelancers and contractors, and be required to manage the end-to-end communication and production of work. You’ll prepare/review year‑end accounts (FRS 105), CT600s, VAT, payroll, self-assessments and provide ongoing tax advice. As a senior accountant, you would be required to train and mentor others, take sales meetings and help shape our software and processes. As a small business, you will also have plenty of scope to get involved in other projects and areas that interest you.
Key Responsibilities:
-Client Management: You’ll own a portfolio of clients and be the main point of contact for these. You’ll look to build strong, long-lasting relationships with our clients, acting as their trusted, dedicated accountant.
-End-of-Year Accounts: You will prepare and submit accurate and compliant end-of-year accounts.
-Payroll: You’ll manage and process payroll for your portfolio.
-VAT Returns: You’ll review and file VAT returns, ensuring timely and correct submissions.
-Self-Assessment: You’ll prepare self-assessment tax returns and provide tax advice around these.
-Tax Advice: Aided by the software, you’ll provide proactive, tax advice to your portfolio.
-Reviewing Work: As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for reviewing the work of other more junior members of staff.
-Platform Development: Collaborate directly with our product and engineering teams, providing valuable feedback and insights to improve our accounting platform.
-Process Improvements: You will actively drive process improvements e.g. improving firm-wide client communications, implementing improved review processes etc. updating practice management workflows etc.
What We're Looking For:
-Qualifications: A recognised accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, AAT).
-Experience: Proven experience as a senior accountant/accountant, ideally with a focus on small businesses or limited companies.
-Technical: Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, tax laws, payroll, and VAT regulations, and this is reflected in your work.
-Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly and concisely.
-Tech-Savvy: You’re interested in accounting technology and excited by the idea of shaping a new accounting platform from the ground up. Experience with various accounting software is a plus.
-UK-Based: A UK right to work status is required. This is a hybrid role, so you would be required to travel to Hitchin, Stevenage or Cambridge 1 - 2 times a week for in-person co-working. This location can be flexible dependent on your preference.

We are looking for a highly motivated Trainee Accountant to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity to progress your accounting career in a fast-moving tech-led firm, learning from experienced accountants whilst gaining hands-on exposure to real client work from day one.You’ll support our accountants and senior accountants in managing portfolios of limited company micro-businesses, mainly freelancers and contractors, and gradually own your own portfolio too. You’ll assist with the end-to-end production of work including bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and year-end accounts (FRS 105),while developing your technical knowledge and confidence. You’ll also get involved in shaping our internal processes and our accounting platform as you grow.
Key Responsibilities:
-Client Support: Supporting accountants with client communications and helping to build strong, long-lasting client relationships.
-Client Management: As you progress, you will also start to manage your own portfolio and client relationships, with the support of the team.
-End-of-Year Account Support: Assisting in the preparation of end-of-year accounts, such as gathering client information and bank reconciliations.
-Payroll Support: You’ll support with processing payroll.
-VAT Return Support: You’ll review and file VAT returns, ensuring timely and correct submissions.
-Self-Assessment: You’ll assist with the preparation of self-assessment tax returns.
-Platform Development: You'll play a key role in providing feedback on how the platform works in practice for your tasks and suggest improvements.
-Process Improvements: You'll support with improvements to internal processes, workflows and client communications as the firm scales.
What We're Looking For:
-Qualifications: Studying towards AAT or ACCA.
-Experience: Some experience in accounting, finance or bookkeeping roles would be helpful.
-Technical: A strong interest in UK accounting, tax, payroll and VAT, with a desire to develop your technical knowledge.
